We had a pleasant day. John and Marie came over for dinner. BB and I tried a new pork recepe involving a Tamarand marinade. It was VERY flavorful and VERY spicy. Still the meat was wonderful and the sides, roasted peppers and mixed roasted vegetables, were a nice compliment. BB surprised me with a bit of mixed fruit for desert. Yum!
Seth is coming for dinner tonight. BB and I have decided to do what we can to help. We'll see.
The last few days have been fairly ho hum. Most of life is, of course, like that.
Things with Seth have been bumping along. He's come down with a flue and sounded very bad. As a consequence he wasn't able to come to dinner tonight. I'm increasingly concerned for him. If I was working it'd be possible to do more, but as things stand there are limits to the possible.
Things with mom are OK but she isn't happy with the nursing home. We're trying to sort out the issues. I'd like to be hopeful, but truth told, I'm not.
BB was off today and we slept in. It was really nice to wake up with her still in bed as she normally gets up and leaves rather earlier. We had a quiet mourning and didn't really get started on the day until almost 11:00.
I had a number of things to attend to today and didn't get much of a chance to get work done. That said, I did make arrangements to have the appliances serviced. In the way of such things the stove has some dead igniters, the electric oven control panel died, and the dishwasher is misbehaving. Perhaps this is one of those things in threes things.
Mike is not well. It looks like a flue. He's been quiet today. Hopefully it will only last a day or so. We'll see.
I looked at a site HB had asked me to. She's looking for a new job and considering the firm. I'm not sure how much use I can be but we'll see.
I'd asked Seth down for dinner but he called to cancel as he and Erin (his girlfriend) are trying to 'work things out'. That's not a good situation and I'm concerned for him.
I also heard from HB. She's looking at a new job. We spoke for almost an hour. I hope things go well for her.
I managed to get through to my Mom. She's having trouble hanging up her phone so it has been ringing busy for the last several days. I spoke to my sister Elen who was going to visit Mom and asked her to deal with the phone. It's sad when I think about it. As my brother Art said, "We're loosing her day by day." Still it is pleasant to hear her voice and speak with her.
The day started on a bit of an off note when Mike slept through his alarm. It brings to mind Seth. I'm a bit concerned for Mike in this regard.
I went by the library to pick up a book. I've been reading some WEB Griffin novels. They are quick and entertaining reads and I've enjoyed them.
I stopped and got BB some flowers and a card for Valentines day. I think well go to a movie and dinner at a new restaurant in town to mark the day.
Seth was going to come over to dinner tonight but called to say he's got a roommate and is helping him move in. While I'm glad to know as it will help him with the rent, I'd really been looking forward to the evening. Well, life happens.
Sent out a number of resumes today and hopefully something will click. I must admit I'm getting more than a little discouraged. It's one thing to get and interview and not get the job. Quite a bit more discouraging when you can't even get a phone screen much less an interview. But I remain hopeful.
Other than that not much is going on.
Ron is a broker who lives on a boat. We had a chance to talk a bit with him during the trip to learn a bit about the reality of living on the water. Interestingly, it is cheaper than land (at least in Boston) and save for winters not much of a hassle. That said, it is interesting to note that he and his wife plan to buy a place in Florida for the winter in the next few years and get a bit of land time.
On the boat front we looked at another Mainship 43. This one was among the nicest we've seen. Even so, BB continues to feel that it is to cramped for our use although she did say that if it was just the loop it would be OK but didn't like it as a longer term live aboard.
We also saw a Navigator 53. This particular boat was in tough shape and clearly a project boat. Oh, and massively overpriced given the market and its condition (asking $369 when it was worth something on the order of $180 or so). Aside from that, the model has some possibilities. The accommodations are much better than the Bayliner 4788 and the boat is significantly larger overall. On the negative side, the pilothouse is not as nice and the boat is much larger. We'll try to see one in more reasonable condition.
I managed to get through to Mom. It seems her phone was on the blink. She sounded well but I understand from speaking with Avery and Art that she is continuing to deteriorate mentally. I'm afraid that we are sneaking up on a nursing home.
A MS update lost my work on the Loop site! I'll have to redo the route work I did the other day. I've been looking into the Google Maps API with a view to doing something in that space. It's entirely straight forward and I may do a bit of playing.

BB and I have talked a bit about the prospect but she is almost entirely set against it. I'm thinking about renting one for a week as a test drive to see if she might change her mind.
BB took off Thursday and spent the day running errands. I did some things around the house.
Friday was a quiet work day spent mostly working on the Loop web site. I got a fair bit done and have developed a technique for doing routes on google earth. I may redo the routs for the Keys, Florida East, Georgia, SC, and NC this way. I'm also looking into an easier way to do routes with a link to google maps.
Saturday was an at home day. Originally we'd planned on going to CT to look at boats but the broker was not available. I may go down Monday by myself as BB has to work. I had a nice long conversation with HB. Things are going OK with them.
The plan for Sunday is to relax and enjoy a quiet day at home.
Next week I'm going to get back to work looking for a contract and catching up on paperwork.
We've decided to see a Navigator 53 in CT this weekend. This boat is reportedly somewhat tired but it should give us a sense of the model.
