So I'm continuing to work on getting rid of Comcast TV. A bit more web searching found some interesting information. First off here's a couple of useful youtube videos.
They mention a couple of useful pieces of software including xbmc and mythTV. Since I've got a couple of old PCs that are able to run Ubuntu this seems like a plausible place to start. Interestingly, xbmc has a number of plugins. There's also an interesting hack to a nettop box here. And finally an interesting VGA to HDMI here.
