Yard work continues ... plus some inside work

I was able to install a few more stones yesterday. Somewhere along the way I managed to strain a muscle in my shoulder so I'm a bit sore today. Fortunately, it's raining now so there will be no yard work today. I'll take the opportunity to deal with a couple of inside chores, probably putting up the molding that I took down to allow the exterminator to treat for ants.

I took some time yesterday to download Picasa and install it. It actually works well so I uploaded photos from the sailing trip Barbara and I took to my Google Picasa account. All in all, I'm pleased with the way that went and will try going forward to get the family photos uploaded and to post some in this blog.

I went to the doctor's for my annual checkup. Nothing noteworthy ... loose a bit of weight, your BP is a bit high. All in all I've been lucky with my health and thankful for it.

Continue with yard work

OK, so I've got some blog religion and will try to post daily.

I got up at the usual 6AM and decided to make some progress on the yard work I'd planned for this summer (walk in front of house, 2 stone patios, walk to back yard, clean out from under front steps/decks, put in edging where needed, put lattice around front steps/decks, and new lawn ... whew, I'm really tired now).

So far I've got in the front walk and 2 stone patios, cleaned out underneath the steps/decks, and done the edging. I've started on the stone walk to the back yard.

So this mourning I decided I'd put in another couple of stones and move the rest of the stones to where the walk is. Now, this doesn't sound like much work but these are BIG stones and the largest weigh several hundred pounds. Since I'm not a young buck anymore this is real work for me. The temperature today is actually fairly reasonable, around 70 or so, but it is wet and very humid. It took me about an hour to position and set the stones and then another half hour or so to move the rest. If I feel like it later today, I'll set another couple. I'm actually sneaking up on being done and only have another 8 or so to do.

Keeping up with a blog takes a fair bit of diciplin

Ok, I'm going to have another go at this.

It's August already and the summer seems almost over. I've made fair progress on the outside landscaping including putting in over 1000 ft sq of walks and a steeping stone path. What remains is to put up some lattice work on the front steps and then do a new lawn. It looks like just a few more days work will see those jobs complete.

I've found a site with hints on blogging and will try to improve this a bit as I've time.

Trying to get back to this

Well, I've been rather busy the last few days and haven't had much of a chance to work on this blog. I did steal some time and look into ways to post. There are a number of options, none particularly attractive, at least to me. There must be a better way than the blogger online interface but I've yet to discover it. It's a bit frustrating as when I look at other blogs it seems clear that they are able to ship raw HTML in some fashion. But how, that's the question? I've spent some time looking into RVs. I've been following Kallene's blog for some time. They have both a power cat and an RV. In one of their entries they wrote about the relative cost. Said and done the RV looks MUCH cheaper than the boat. Much as I really like boating, cost is a factor. That and the real fact that much of what I'd like to see isn't accessible by water. Thus my interest in RVs. There are a ton of web sites about RVs and travel. I've started following a couple of blogs to get some sense of how people travel. I also found RV Trader. This seems to be a site where both individuals and RV dealers list RVs for sale. Prices are all over the place but there seem to be some reasonable RV's starting at around $20k and getting fairly nice around $80k. It's a thought. I've spoken with BB about this, but with all that is happening with the kids now is not a good time. Perhaps we'll try to rent one over the summer and take a small trip.

On posting to this blog

It turns out that it may be possible to use FrontPage with and tags to make entries in this blog. I'm still getting use to this and would prefer to have a bit more powerful environment in which to compose entries.

I also found a reference to Windows Live Writer (http://windowslivewriter.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!D85741BB5E0BE8AA!174.entry) that might make entry composition easier.
