Setting ID3 tags for Sansa SanDisk audiobooks that preserve track order across multiple disk

BB and I have Sansa SanDisk players that we use to listen to audiobooks.  Most audio books come on multiple disk each with multiple tracks so I set the ID3 tags on the individual track mp3 files to preserve the track order throughout the book.  Turns out it's a bit tricky as the SanDisk is rather picky about its treatment of ID3 tags.

Here's what I do.

Use easytag.

 The key settings are:
  • ID3v2.3 tags
  • Western charset
What I think is going on is that the Sansa Sansdisk doesn't like anything but ID3v2.3 tags and the Western charset.

Also set

Key is track field 3 digits.

What I think is going on is that with audio books the number of tracks is large and the easytag defaults of 2 digits create bogus ID3 tags.

Attempt history:

Used exfalso to set track tag

  • Use exfalso to set track tag
That didn't work either.

Back to Easytag. Try:
  • 3 digit track field
Didn't work

Back to Easytag. Try:
  • 3 digit track field
  • no of track number
Seems to have worked.
